Home Members Projects Events sc:ala seminar
The sc:ala centre was established in 2008 as a research unit within the Department of Mathematics and Informatics of the Faculty of Sciences, University of Novi Sad, with an initial goal to promote and advance research activities in the field of applied linear algebra. However, the scope of research activities of the centre developed considerably since then, and now we are also engaged in investigations of discrete and algebraic structures, statistics, stochastic processes, various aspects of theoretical computer science. Hints to some of these additional research areas are contained in the negative of the mirror-image of our logo.

The principal aims of sc:ala are:

  • to stimulate and intensify collaboration between researchers in the interrelated areas of interest of the centre;
  • to manage the existing research grants in a more efficient way, and also to attract new ones, both on the national and international level;
  • to establish and maintain high-quality standards of PhD courses in the research areas of the centre, as well as to enable a more efficient supervision of the work of PhD students associated with centre's activities;
  • to provide an institutional framework for the development of international cooperation with similar centres in Europe and around the world.

The centre is actively engaged in organising high-quality international conferences, such as ALA (Applied Linear Algebra). We also organise weekly meetings of members of the centre and hold a research seminar.

The work of sc:ala is currently supported by grants from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technological Development of the Republic of Serbia, and from the Secretariat of Science and Technological Development of the Autonomous Province of Vojvodina.
