The AAA is a series of workshops in general algebra and related fields, taking place twice every year: a 'winter edition' in February-March and a 'summer edition' in May-June. Usually, they are organised at universities in Germany and Austria, but several meetings were held in Switzerland, Czech Republic, Poland, Hungary and Finland. This is the first time that an AAA conference is held in Serbia.

The traditional AAA was founded in 1970 by Rudolf Wille, TU Darmstadt. The general coordination stayed with Prof. Wille until 1995, when after 50 conferences he passed it on to Reinhard Pöschel and Bernhard Ganter, TU Dresden.

The main topics of the 83rd edition of AAA include (but are not limted to):

  • Universal algebra and its applications in computer science (in particular, in CSP's)
  • Semigroups, groups, automata and their interactions
  • Lattices and other ordered algebraic structures
  • Connections of algebra to model theory and combinatorics (e.g. homogeneous structures, etc.)

The aim of AAA83 is to promote the recent research results and trends in these areas.

The conference will begin in the morning of March 15, 2012 (Thursday); it will end on March 18, 2012 (Sunday) around lunchtime. The scientific program will consist of 10 invited (50-minute) lectures delivered by leading European researchers in the above areas, and a number of short contributed talks.

The official language of the conference is English. Notebook computers, video-beams and overhead projectors will be available to the speakers. For electronic presentations, most of the usual formats (pdf, ps, ppt,...) are supported.
